Finishing processes

Surface protection for your components

Plate or sheet is frequently installed so that it remains visible, or is purposely put up for cosmetic purposes. This means that on average every second finished profile or metal undergoes surface treatment subsequent to manufacture.

Two of the most common finishing techniques are anodic coating and powder coating. The Höfer Group offers both processes. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to find out about the suitability of various finishes for your project.

The finishing processes we offer

Anodic finishing

The Höfer Group anodic coating plant is located in Dillingen. Here aluminum profiles and sheet are subjected to electrolytic oxidation, causing their surface to be converted into a dense oxide layer. The result: a durable, corrosion-resistant protective layer that retains the attractiveness of the metal base.

The range of finishes extend from natural aluminum to light silver to black (C35). Attractive copper shades are also available. Anodizing causes the precision profiles not only to become extremely corrosion- and weather-resistant and color-fast, but also makes them abrasion-proof and impervious to mechanical wear. Anodic finishing is done exclusively to DIN 17611, complying with Qualanod quality specifications.

Powder coating

In Höfer’s powder coating line in Urmitz, pore-tight weather-resistant surfaces are created that provide permanent protection for the material yet pose no limitations in terms of their color design. Two automated horizontal power & free lines featuring integrated immersion pretreatment and a vertical continuous-action line ensure fast throughput times.

Profiles and plate components made of aluminum and steel up to 7,500 x 1,000 x 2,000 mm in size are automatically pretreated, dried, coated and baked. Fabrication complies with Qualicoat requirements.

Summary of the advantages of both processes

  • Aluminum alloys are extremely strong yet light.
  • Aluminum possesses high innate anti-corrosion properties. These properties can be enhanced by adding an anodic coating.
  • The result is a material with a long service life that is fully recyclable when it has completed its lifecycle and reached the end of its life.
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor use: aluminum is extremely weather- and UV-resistant (fade resistant) and impermeable to water vapor.
  • Since this lightweight metal can be easily processed and shaped, it is predestined for a wide variety of uses: from impact protection to decorative stripping, the possible uses are virtually infinite and range from the construction and automotive industries to aviation, not to mention being a favorite in DIY projects.
  • It can serve as highly a decorative surface or as a component providing for extremely tough mechanical properties.
